Logan Christy’s Advocates was started by Save Down Syndrome, Buddies of the Bluegrass, and No Worries Kentucky in memory of Logan Christy. Logan was a twenty-year-old man with Down syndrome who was neglected and abused by his parents, Patsy and Albert Christy, until he died. Logan’s parents were originally charged with murder, but they struck a deal with the court and their charges were reduced. Their defense attorneys, as well as the prosecuting attorney, advocated for parole for their crimes. The judge thankfully gave them each a maximum sentence of five years, but they are, however, up for parole in several months from their sentencing on January 10, 2019. The details of the neglect and abuse Logan endured was beyond inhumane, but the court showed that they did not value his life because he had Down syndrome. Logan did not get the justice that he posthumously deserved, but we can make sure that others do. Logan Christy’s Advocates works to make sure that other people with Down syndrome have the same value placed upon their lives by the courts as people without Down syndrome.
